Day 3 was
the first with scheduled activities. At noon district 3470, our hosts, held a
welcome party at Les Hotel Tainan. We introduced ourselves to Rotarians from
four different clubs. Gifts and banners were exchanged between district 2410
and Taiwan.
After the
formal part of the party finished only eating and drinking was left. For those
of you who do not know, a Taiwanese dinner consists of countless of
dishes. Trying to keep track of them is an
overwhelming task. Only appetisers took forever to complete. And then came the
warm dishes. The food mirrored Taiwans proximity to the sea and its warm
climate. With other words: a lot of seafood, shrimps, squids, fishes and a lot
of vegetables and fruits. All dishes is placed on a carousel that stands in the
middle of the round table. Everything is very healthy of course so its no
problem to eat much of it.
After the party
and lunch we went north by minibus to Yunlin County where we will spend the
coming four days. Our hosts drove us to a look-out point in the hills. The view
over the valleys below was fantastic. When we went downhill we stopped at a
cafe situated next to a pineapple plantation. There we acquired our first team
mascot: a pineapple. Anna and Dana soon named it Annanas and Dananas.
